Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP)

Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program (SAWP) is established to boost the economy of the agricultural section in Canada. Agricultural producers and participating foreign countries are in cooperation in the process of recruiting and selecting workers.

A SAWP work permit is usually valid for up to 8 months between January and December 15 of the same year. Your employer will need to apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and send you a copy of the positive LMIA letter once it’s received from the Employment and Skills Development Canada (ESDC)/Service Canada.

If you are a citizen of these participating countries, you may apply for the SAWP:

  • Anguilla

  • Antigua and Barbuda

  • Barbados

  • Dominica

  • Grenada

  • Jamaica

  • Mexico

  • Montserrat

  • St. Kitts-Nevis

  • St. Lucia

  • St. Vincent and the Grenadines

  • Trinidad and Tobago

Examples of these agricultural commodity sectors are: Apiary products, fruits, vegetables, mushrooms flowers, nursery-grown trees, pedigreed canola seed, sod, tobacco, bovine, dairy, duck, horse, mink, poultry, sheep and swine etc.

Please be advised that the SAWP program does not provide a pathway to permanent residency of Canada. If you intend to immigrate to Canada as a agricultural worker, please check the Agri-Food Pilot Program for more information.
