Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot

Updated: May 18, 2021

Don’t confuse the current Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot with the previous Live-in Caregiver program which has been closed to new applicants on June 18, 2019.

If you’ve never worked full-time as a caregiver in Canada, you may apply for an occupation-restricted work permit which allows you to work in one of these jobs:

  • home childcare provider - NOC 4411 (experience as a foster parent doesn’t count)

or

  • home support worker - NOC 4412 (experience as a housekeeper doesn’t count)

“Occupation-restricted” means that you can change employers freely but not the type of job. You will still have to work in one of the abovementioned NOC jobs. After obtaining 24 months of qualifying work experience in Canada, you may apply for permanent residence through one of these pilots.

Under these pilot programs, a caregiver applicant may bring her/his family members and stay with them throughout her/his employment in Canada. Your (the caregiver applicant’s) family members can work or study while in Canada with you. They can include their work or study permit applications with your application. For more details of the pilot program, please consult with our RCICs.
