Express Entry(EE) is a Procedure implemented January 1st 2015. The EE system changed from “waiting in line” or the "first-come-first-serve" method to the highest qualified gets chosen for one of the federal programs.
To get in the EE system, You need to be qualified for the following federal programs:
the Federal Skilled Worker program(FSW)
the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
The process of Express Entry
As the procedure shows below, a candidate will need to create a EE profile. If you meet the requirement of one of the sub-classes: FSW, FST or CEC, your profile will be moved into the EE pool where you compete against other candidates for an Invitation To Apply(ITA) letter. The system will rank candidates in the EE pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and select the highest-ranking candidates from the pool and invite them to apply for permanent residence. Hence, meeting the minimum requirement of the 3 sub-classes is not enough because you will also need to meet the cut-off CRS score in order to receive a ITA.
Here are some key factors that influencing your CRS scores:
Age
education
language
work experience
Job offer
There are other factors as well but the above are more critical to the success of your application. Also, each sub-class (FSW, FST or CEC) has a different set of requirements regarding these factors. Be sure to plan your language test, education or employment ahead to increase your chance of success.
If you have received an ITA, you can move on to the next stage--applying for your permanent residency--via the EE system.
