The short answer is yes. However, you may need to meet certain requirements before you enter the labor market without acquiring a work permit (read below for details).
For international students who study at a university/college level:
• if you enroll in a qualified learning institution as a full-time student and possess a valid study permit, you can work on-campus without a work permit.
• If you enroll in one of the DLIs as a full-time student and have a valid study permit, you may work off campus without a work permit. However, you may only work for up to 20 hours per week and maintain a good standing in your study. In addition, you can work full-time during school breaks.
For ESL international students:
• If you hold a study permit and study at a university or college, you may work on campus without a work permit.
• If your ESL program is less than 6 months and you do not have a study permit, you may not work in Canada.
